A team of friends who took part in a triathlon in aid of Bay Hospitals Charity raised more than £300.

Steve French (swimmer), Bob Hart (cyclist) and Gregor Smith (runner) took part in Lancaster University Triathlon, racing as a relay team on a course involving a 400m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run.

They came first in the team category, with all three improving their times from their last participation in the event in 2018.

The trio had set an initial fund-raising target of £150, and were delighted to receive so much support from family and friends.

Bob (who manages communications for Bay Hospitals Charity) said: “We had a great time taking part in the triathlon.

“We were all pleased with our performances - especially since we’re all getting faster as we get older - but most of all we’re really happy to be able to support our local hospitals.”

Bay Hospitals Charity funds the latest equipment for University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust to help make patients more comfortable and ensure they get the best possible care and treatment.

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust Non-Executive Director Adrian Leather said: “Well done to the team for taking part in this event, and thank you to everyone who made a donation to their fund-raising total.

“The donations that have been made will be gratefully received by the charity, but this event is also an important reminder that staying fit and active is one way that we can all support the NHS.”
