Around 70 supporters raised about £5,000 for Bay Hospitals Charity by taking part in the Keswick to Barrow Walk.

The popular event could not go ahead in 2020, but returned on September 18 offering a rewarding challenge as well as the chance to raise money for a range of good causes.

Walkers and runners took on the 39-mile route Keswick or the shorter 21-mile route starting from Coniston.

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust Non-Executive Director Adrian Leather was a member of the Bay Hospitals Charity team taking part in the event.

He said: “It was wonderful to be part of a such a well-organised and worthwhile event. As well as enjoying a great challenge in amazing scenery, it was fantastic to spend time with other supporters of Bay Hospitals Charity and help to raise money to support patient care in our hospitals.”

Volunteers from Bay Hospitals Charity were on the route offering support to participants. Water and snacks were donated by the Lancaster branch of Asda, while the UHMBT catering team at Furness General Hospital provided homemade flapjacks.

Bay Hospitals Charity manager Judith Read said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to our walkers and runners, our volunteers, the Keswick to Barrow Walk organisers and everyone who supported the event.

“It was brilliant to see so many people supporting us, and I am already looking forward to next year’s event.”
