The Great North Run is the world’s biggest half marathon. It takes participants on a 13 mile journey from the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne to the coast at South Shields.

Starting in Newcastle upon Tyne the 13.1 mile route takes runners through the city centre towards the River Tyne where thousands of people will cross over the iconic Tyne Bridge, where if you’re lucky, you might get a glimpse of the Red Arrows passing overhead.

Runners then travel through Gateshead while being entertained by bands on the run and encouraged by the streets lined with supporters, all the way to South Shields where at the top of Prince Edward Road the view of the sea is one of the most welcoming sights of the whole course.  With just over a mile to go the crowds get louder as runners make their way to the final straight and towards the finish gantry.
